I have finally finished the Follow Your Heart project and wanted to share the technique. The original design was created with the Calligraphy Project Designer which is very easy to use.

Since this is for a very special college student, I used a wrapped canvas as my "frame." That way, it can be easily hung with wall-friendly adhesive or displayed on a desk or shelf.  Start by trimming and squaring the central embroidery. I made it approximately half of the size of the canvas.
Add a coordinated border strip by stitching (right sides together) on each side, then top and bottom. Press the seams to the colored fabric side so they do not show through to the front. I used generous lengths and squared everything up after each set of seams (left and right, top and bottom).
